THE WEBB QUAICH Volunteer of the Year |
Presented by Rosie Webb in 2005.
The Quaich (pronounced 'quake') is a historic Scottish drinking vessel used to offer a guest a cup of welcome.
Rosemary felt it most appropriate for presentation within the Hammer Circle for two reasons:-
At the time of the presentation daughter Shirley was the Scottish Champion and Scottish Record Holder for hammer throw.
The 'Circle' is a unique band of enthusiasts always ready to offer help, encouragement and friendship to one another.
In so many walks of life volunteers play an invaluable part and very rarely receive the recognition they deserve. The Hammer Circle is no exception.
The Webb Quaich is presented so that each year someone who has voluntarily given extraordinary time, energy and expertise in some way, which has benefited the British hammer throwing fraternity, may be publicly recognised for their generosity.
